We'll continue our discussion of the cross. We're going to start with 1 Corinthians 2 and then move on to Colossians 1. Allow me to read you something incredible. This is such good news—God's marvelous, amazing mystery.

Hidden wisdom in a mystery

In 1 Corinthians 2:6–8. Paul says, "We do, however, speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdom in a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."

What wisdom?

Now, what wisdom is Paul talking about? We're going to jump on over to Colossians 1:27. "God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." This mystery that had been hidden before the foundations of the world, this mystery, this power, that the rulers of the world, had they known it, they never would have crucified Christ.

So what is it? When Christ walked the earth, it was only Him. He certainly performed wonderful miracles and spoke to us. His death and resurrection provided us with salvation and eternal life with Him. But what's the mystery? The mystery, as we learned in Colossians, is that Christ is in you. So here's the power: Christ is in every believer. Instead of one Christ walking the earth, Christ is in billions of us.

That is why satan would never have crucified Christ had he known that you now have Christ in you. Everywhere you go, Christ is present. Everywhere you go, satan is defeated. When you are living with Christ and letting him live through you, you are letting him change the world through you. When you go to the store, Christ is with you. When you go to work, Christ is with you. You always have, and so do the rest of us; His power, His wisdom, and all of God Almighty's resources are with us.

You have Christ with you

That means that as we walk with Christ, we do defeat Satan. As we live with Him and the Spirit of Christ is in us, we have wisdom, knowledge, and discernment. Satan is scared when you walk in—not of you or of me, but of Christ among us. This was the secret mystery: that He could be in us, living through us. Whether Jew or Gentile, Christ lives with us through faith. If satan had understood what was about to happen, he would never have crucified the Lord.

Christ knew He would dwell with you. Remember—we've discussed previously that Christ endured the crucifixion for the joy set before him. The joy was that He could be with you and that you could get to know Him, and the evil one is now defeated for you.
