Three hundred and sixty-five times God tells us to “fear not” in Scripture. That is one for each day and easier said than done.

Every day we are told new reasons to fear. The economy, health, wars and rumors of wars, society seemingly losing its mind, chaos in the big cities and so much more bring us reasons to fear. Closer to home, our own finances, health, issues with our families, friends and work add to the pile.

And, yet, God tells us not to fear.

Well, yes, we’ve read the end of the Bible and all turns out well but boy is there a lot that happens before then that will rock our worlds. The end is fabulous, today might not be.

For us to not fear, we need to be able to know and feel protected. We attempt to do this on our own. If we can just figure out how to stop the “what if” from happening, if we can plan ahead enough and consider every possible, horrible option then maybe we can protect ourselves and those we love. I haven’t found that to actually work.

God with us

There is nothing that will happen that He does not know about. And, nothing that can happen that He has not already figured out what to do about. He alone knows what our future holds. Whatever He allows in our lives is designed to draw us closer to Him as He brings good from the situation. Nothing is random. All has been considered and everything weighed in the balance. God’s got this.

Chaos is just an illusion

To God, all is going in the direction of His perfect, eternal will. Nothing is out of His control. Yes, for now, evil and sin are present with us. That infection is spreading and we see the outcome in the people and governments of the world. It only means that we are getting closer to Christ’s return.

If I look at life from where I am today, then fear can most certainly prevail. If I look at life from God’s eternal perspective then I see His loving kindness holding steady so that all that can be saved who will be saved. I see Him holding back the tide of the evil one until we are removed from this place. I see how He is directing our lives to a narrow road of faith because of the fearful things around us. I see hope and a future waiting for us all.

When you feel fear creeping up behind you, know that you stand with Christ who has pledged to care for you, love you and bring you through this world and into His joy forever. Do not fear. He has overcome the world.
